Why Not Shovel?
Shoveling can be a good workout if you're in shape. You can compare shoveling the average American driveway to a weightlifting session or running a 12-minute mile. - Lift with your legs instead of your back
- Throw snow forward. Twisting to throw snow sideways or backwards puts more stress on spinal discs and can cause them to rupture.
- Use an ergonomic shovel (it has a bend in the handle)
- Use a snow blower. It will save your back, but can be dangerous to operate.
- Always dress appropriately for the weather conditions. Layers work best for trapping heat close to your body.
- Forget the first six tips. Walk down your freshly shoveled steps in your bathrobe to get your paper and wave to your neighbor as he's stuck snow blowing the mountain left by the snow plow at the end of his driveway.
